hello there neglected blog!

i was away and busy,... doing other things.

school kept me busy, having two subjects this summer - STS and 125 (major). STS, the most boring and nakakatamad subject ever, ended today with an exam. My major, Communications for Development on the other hand is lalalove! Although the subject is quite demanding; doing workshops, learning about communication strategies, burning neurons, working with a partner NGO (just like a real CD professional!), etc. this subject also made me use my potentials; working on a team (with friends and ughh freeloaders), and a social enterprise - coming up problem and objective trees, doing SWOT Analysis and coming up with specific strategies, planning and going to places, establishing connections, doing promotions and endorsements, etc. WAAAH!

HA ANO?

we are currently working with a social enterprise based in Mindanao, well basically they seek to connect the young and hip urban kids (their target market) with the disadvantaged young artisans (the producers of the product) of Mindanao through,... fashion accessories! they make accessories out of terracotta clays and semi-precious stones, patterned with indigenous colors and designs.

they seek to penetrate a wider market (dominated by the current trading system which is mass production - yaay so CD!) where their work (since they are guided by the principles of Fair Trade) can be sold with amount that would equal to their work. arghh cant say much!

SO WHAT DO WE DO?

Next week, the artisans will go here (Manila) to join this event funded by some government agency; they seek not only to promote their work, but the cause of FT as well. So what we are trying to do, is get students from nearby schools to go attend this event, get to know the artisans, learn about about Fair Trade, appreciate and hopefully support the products FT.

So tomorrow were going to Manila, forward letters to the school administrators, conduct orientation and IDK but sounds like FUN FUN FUN!!! So guys, if you wanna learn more about the enterprise, or just what the hell am i doing, leave a msg. k? :))
